Hey, hey friend.
On this first day of fall I come to you with the very first Resource Round-Up.
In this issue you’ll find a compilation of recommendations—from myself and others within the paid community—for books, podcasts, videos, and experiences that gave new perspective, taught something new, or had a positive impact in the summer of 2022. Each recommendation will have a brief description and link to access it.
Thank you for every suggestion and recommendation you shared with me, and in turn, provided the rest of the paid community. Grateful for you.
~ Lindsey
📚 Read
Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals
https://www.oliverburkeman.com/books
The reality check on time management that I think we all need. Funny. Insightful. Well-researched. Perspective-shifting.
Good Inside: A Guide to Becoming the Parent You Want to Be by Dr. Becky Kennedy
https://www.goodinside.com/book/
Brilliant. Refreshing. Grateful this exists. Less a template of how to be a parent and more a reminder of the importance of connecting with our kids and shifting our perspective to remember that—no matter how tough or defiant they are being—they are good inside.
The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward by Daniel H. Pink
https://www.danpink.com/the-power-of-regret/
A love letter to regret and how important it is to the human experience. Draws on psychology, neuroscience, economics, and biology to challenge assumptions about regret. Left me feeling more at peace than ever with the things I regret.
Bittersweet: How Sorry and Longing Make Us Whole by Susan Cain
https://susancain.net/book/bittersweet
One for the deep-feelers. This book is a mixture of research, storytelling, and memoir to explore how essential and beautiful sorrow and longing are to being human.
🎙 Listen
We Can Do Hard Things feat. Chelsea Handler
A beautiful testament to not abandoning oneself for a relationship, no matter how good it is.
Hidden Brain: Money 2.0
Fascinating. Helped me understand why—no matter how much Kev and I are making—we seem to keep busting our budget. This was part of a larger series on money with episodes on rewriting your money story, the emotional point of money, our perceptions of wealth, and what the things we buy say about us. All interesting.
We Can Do Hard Things feat. Dr. Becky Kennedy
A tear-jerker in the best way. Parent or not, hearing Dr. Becky preach how we’re all born good inside is a breath of fresh air.
✨ Experience
Storyworth
https://welcome.storyworth.com/
Hands down my new favorite gift for loved ones. Storyworth prompts you or someone you love to share the stories of your/their life at a cadence of your choosing. You can choose the prompts and then at the end of one year they put all of your/their answers in a book.
The PACT Institute - Wired for Love Online Retreat
https://www.thepactinstitute.com/retreats
The retreat I was talking about in our last issue of The Pause. It has completely evolved the way Kevin and I function in our relationship. Eight sessions over a four month period, and worth every minute. The guy who leads it also has a book called Wired for Love (highly recommend).
FutureMe App
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/futureme/id1607047236
If you were in Soul Confidence, download this. The letters I previously had you write to your future self are now accessible here. It’s been super fun to see what’s changed and what has stayed the same for me.
