Welcome to The Pause. Come on in and make yourself comfortable.
I’m so grateful you’re here.
After a week in paradise with family and friends, I’m feeling refreshed and more clear about how I’d like my day-to-day life to look. It’s funny how time away can do that, eh?
A little sun.
Some time away from the phone.
The presence of people I love.
All of a sudden life doesn’t seem so complicated.
To keep the party going, let’s use today’s issue to consider if there are small adjustments we can make to our everyday routines to help us build more meaningful lives.
Settle in, take a deep breath, and get ready to pause in 3...2...1...
🍰 Little Slices of Bliss
Should we grab a coffee after dropping Jazz off tomorrow? - My husband on Sunday night at 10 PM.
We had just gotten back from Maui, and as we were unpacking he threw out an idea for something we had never done before. Sure, it might not be watching humpback whales breach beneath a setting sun, which, unbelievably, was something we had been experiencing every evening for the previous week, but, it was an opportunity for us to keep the magic of vacation going.
A moment of calm on Monday morning before the storm of the week?
An hour to be present together?
A little slice of bliss?
Hell yeah. I’m in.
After drop-off on Monday morning, my husband and I pulled up to the coffee shop. Walked in. Ordered. Sat down. And, for the next hour, proceeded to have ourselves a beautiful coffee date.
Had this previously been a part of our morning routine?
Nope.
And yet, with a quick adjustment, there we were.. giving ourselves a small but mighty slice of bliss where there wasn’t one before.
If you stop and think about it, your world is bustling with opportunities to build a more blissful day-to-day rountine, right? You could…
…turn the TV off by 8 PM and choose to focus on a hobby — like drawing, reading, or writing —instead.
…go for a walk around the block in the morning before work.
…reach out to one person you love every day at lunch to tell them what you admire about them.
…put your earpods in and dance to a song in front of the mirror as a way to let off steam after the workday.
Sure, bliss can come from watching whales breach in a Hawaiian sunset.. but it can also come from making time for a coffee date on a Monday morning before work with the person you love.
So, today, take a moment to think about how you can infuse a little more bliss into your life. No matter how seemingly small, a little bliss can compound over time and result in a more joyful, present, and meaningful life overall.

- Are there opportunities to build a more joyful day in your day-to-day routine? If yes, where?
Definitely.
In the mornings, at breakfast, in the evenings after putting Jazz to sleep. There are little moments all over my day.
- What are a few things you could do to feel more bliss on a daily basis?
I could begin each day by writing for 10 minutes.
I could stay present at breakfast by putting the phone on the kitchen counter.
I could write a card to one person I love every weekday at lunch.
I could go watch the sunset at Crissy Field after picking Jazz up from school.
I could Facetime one loved one after putting Jazz to sleep on weeknights.
- How could choosing to do these things enhance your life over time?
When I look at that list, what I see is more connection — to myself, to the people I love, to the world around me. It feels like doing those things would actively bring more love and connection into my life.
