Welcome to The Pause, dear friend. Come on in and make yourself comfortable.
First, a humble Thank You for the beautiful emails and messages I received after our last pause. You shared your own stories of grief and love lost with me, and it reminded me of just how kind and heartfelt things on the internet can be received. Thank you. I can’t tell you enough how much that feeling meant to me.
For today, I want to take a moment to appreciate my husband, Kevin, and all our other loved ones who are doing the work to change themselves for the better.
Settle in, take a deep breath, and get ready to pause in 3…2…1…
💗 Committed to Change
I admire my husband, Kevin, for many reasons.
Kevin is kind, loving, sweet, and almost intimidatingly stylish. He is funny with an edgy twist. Generous. Of integrity. A host with the most. Someone who I’m grateful to share my life with.
But the thing I’ve come to admire most in Kevin—the thing that I feel grateful to bear witness to every day—is his commitment to change.
If you’re someone who’s doing the work, you know how daunting and complex it can feel to alter the way you operate. You know the dance of awareness, reckoning, and execution it takes to eliminate an unhealthy thought pattern/habit/way of being. You know there are progress days, regression days, and everything in between.
But the mark of someone special, the mark of someone who is committed to the work, is that they don’t give up, no matter how much they want to—no matter how complex or complicated the next step seems.
That’s Kevin, and I admire him so much for it.
Kevin has transformed himself by being committed to change. It hasn’t been overnight. It’s been weeks, months, and even years of continuing to show up and stay committed to becoming something he hasn’t been before but wants to be. He is a living example of dust yourself off and try again, and I, and the people around him, are blessed to see him do this thing.
Today, I encourage you to take a moment and think of a person in your life who is committed to change. Someone who is committed to becoming better, no matter how insurmountable it may seem. Someone who inspires you to be better, keep at it, and stay committed to becoming something you’ve never seen before but know you’re meant to be.
